Travertine, Huntsville, Alabama

Alabama isn't known for it fluorescent rocks. However, it is home to America's space and rocket program and Huntsville boasts over 240 caves within the city limits , with a staggering 2000 additional caves in the surrounding area. Travertine, a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, is an often host rock for caves. This specimen, a little too small for any caves, is about 3.5 inches across and fluorescences best in LW, with MW and SW being noticeably dimmer. Shown in Longwave and natural.
