Chondrodite and Diopside, Warwick, New York

The Amity area of the Town of Warwick, in Orange County, New York, is located near the central region of the Franklin marble belt, and is notable for the occurrence of a wide variety of mineral types, some of which are fluorescent. This specimen, collected from Amity, contains yellow/tan grains of chondrodite and grey diopside in a white groundmass of Franklin marble. Under short wave UV the chondrodite fluoresces pale yellow and the diopside light blue. The size of this specimen is 44 x 41 x 17 mm, and it weighs 38 grams.
