Radiating Calcite Crystals, Irai, Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil

Chris Clemens

A radiating cluster of translucent gray-white calcite crystals aesthetically perched on a dark matrix, from Irai, Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil. As is typical for these calcites from Irai, they show a bright orange fluorescent response under short and mid wave UV, and a dimmer pink/red response under long wave UV. The size of this specimen is 38.5 x 32.2 x 21.1 mm.

The above photograph shows the specimen under short wave UV (top) and visible light (bottom).

Images taken under visible light (upper left), short wave UV (upper right), mid wave UV (lower left), and long wave UV (lower right).
