Wollastonite and Calcite, Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, New Jersey

Chris Clemens

This is a light-colored, granite-like rock that predominantly contains wollastonite crystals in a calcite groundmass, with other unidentified mineral components. It was collected from the Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, New Jersey. Under short wave UV the wollastonite fluoresces a bright warm yellow color, and the calcite responds with dim red/orange glow. This specimen is not significantly fluorescent under long wave UV. The size of this piece is 53 x 28 x 16 mm.
