Scapolite and Calcite, Sterling Hill, New Jersey

This rock contains an assemblage of light, colorless scapolite and calcite and dark franklinite, from the famous Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, New Jersey. Under short wave UV, the scapolite fluoresces a moderate maroon color, and the calcite a brighter orange. The franklinite is not fluorescent. The size of this specimen is 7.49 x 4.38 x 3.12 cm, and it weighs 125 grams.
