Multi-Wave Hemimorphite, Petroglyph Mine, New Mexico

Chris Clemens

This is an interesting multi-wave fluorescent specimen consisting of light-colored hemimorphite on an unknown brown matrix, from the Petroglyph Mine, Sierra Co., New Mexico. Under short wave UV the hemimorphite fluoresces blue, under mid wave green, and under long wave dim blue/green. There is also an unknown mineral present that shows an off-white response with phosphorescence under short wave UV. The size of this specimen is 65.7 x 58.8 x 31.5 mm, and it weighs 116 grams.
