Deep Red Fluorescent Eucryptite, Midnight Owl Mine, Independence Gulch, Arizona

Chris Clemens

Light grey/white eucryptite from the Midnight Owl Mine, Independence Gulch, Yavapai Co., Arizona. This is a beautiful specimen under short wave UV, showing a deep, saturated red fluorescent response. Under mid wave UV a dimmer pink/red response is seen. This specimen shows little to no fluorescence under long wave UV. The dimensions are 8 x 6 x 5 cm, 230 grams.

As shown above, cherry red fluorescence is seen under short wave UV (254 nm).

A similar, but muted response is seen under mid wave UV (302 nm).

Same specimen shown under visible light.
