Fluorescent Minerals from the World Famous Mines in NJ - Franklin and Surrounds

The mines of Franklin and the Sterling Hill Mine in  northwest New Jersey are world famous - and are known as the FLuorescent Mineral capital of the world.    The mines boast of over three hundred different minerals, with more than 60 new mineral species claiming this area as the type locality.

Famous for their saturated, bright colors, these minerals are often the foundation of any world-class fluorescent mineral collection.  More information can be found in this excellent pdf article from 1981 about the mines, the geology, and the minerals.

Nature’s Rainbows is a non-commercial website for the hobby community.  It is maintained entirely by volunteer hobbyists and contributors.  Our mission is to provide information about UV and luminescence, premium fluorescent mineral photos, and a fluorescent mineral database for the enjoyment of FL mineral collectors around the world.  Information on this web site is covered under a Creative Commons License.
